These pieces are a study of the life processes of the milkweed plant. My earlier work began with the depiction of plant life and this is the series where I started to illustrate all aspects of the subject's life. This process works to break up the object into an array of viewpoints so the subject can be seen in a greater context. As you observe these drawings, you can see the closed form, the opening and the eventually dispersal of the milkweed seeds; you can feel the plant being blown by the wind to its dead winter state. All of this was acheived by observation and the assistance of the graphite medium.
